Introduction: What Working Across Europe Taught Me (That a Desk Never Did)
Working across Europe changed the way I think about digital work, systems, and how life and business can fit together — without stress or chaos. I didn’t set out on a vacation. I packed my laptop with intention, knowing I’d still be working full-time while exploring places I’d only seen in photos before.
This post isn’t about aesthetic cafés or Instagram-perfect coworking desks. It’s about the real, behind-the-scenes shifts that happened while I built calm, sustainable workflows — from quiet streets in Lisbon to early-morning trains in Paris.
Here’s what I discovered about working across Europe that no guidebook could’ve taught me.
🧭 1. Every Country Teaches You Something Different
When you’re working across Europe, you realize how much the environment shapes your energy.
- In the UK, structure mattered. Schedules, time blocks, and proper boundaries.
- In Italy, slowness was built in, and I leaned into deeper creative work.
- In Germany, clarity ruled. I became sharper with documentation.
- In France, I saw how “off” time could be just as sacred as “on” time.
Each country nudged my systems in a different way. I didn’t fight the differences — I integrated them.
🕰️ 2. Time Becomes Personal — and Precious
When you’re constantly shifting cities and cultures, time isn’t just about deadlines — it becomes deeply personal. I had to learn how to:
- Block hours for deep focus
- Say no to overpacked itineraries
- Balance morning strolls with Zoom calls
Working across Europe helped me stop measuring productivity by hours — and start measuring it by impact.
🧳 3. You Can Pack Light — Digitally, Too
Travel forced me to trim the fat from my digital life.
I went from using 15+ tools to just a lean stack:
- Notion for dashboards
- Trello for workflows
- Zapier for automation
- Google Drive for docs
Working across Europe taught me that simplicity isn’t about doing less — it’s about removing what gets in the way.
🛠️ 4. Not All Wi-Fi Is Created Equal
Let’s be honest — not every Airbnb or café is “remote-work friendly.” Some days, the Wi-Fi dropped mid-call. Others, I worked offline for hours.
I learned to:
- Keep backup docs and SOPs offline
- Use hotspot devices strategically
- Document everything to reduce real-time dependencies
If you’re working across Europe, resilience isn’t optional — it’s part of the design.
🤝 5. Clear Communication Becomes a Superpower
You can’t rely on casual check-ins when you’re solo and 6 hours ahead.
So I leveled up how I:
- Sent project updates via Notion
- Used async tools like Loom
- Built trust without overcommunicating
Working across Europe taught me that clear communication isn’t about saying more — it’s about saying the right thing at the right time.
🧘 6. The More I Slowed Down, the Better My Work Got
Europe moves at a different pace. And I needed that reminder.
I stopped trying to fill every hour. I designed my days to breathe:
- No meetings before 10 a.m.
- Buffer time between tasks
- Nature or art before screen time
It wasn’t lazy. It was intentional design. And my output actually improved.

💡 7. Inspiration Is Everywhere — If You’re Ready for It
One of my best ideas came while sitting at a quiet tram station in Prague.
Another during a rainy walk in Amsterdam.
Working across Europe reminded me that inspiration isn’t scheduled. You can’t control when a breakthrough hits — but you can create space for it.
